Setbacks can be many things: inflammation response to spicy food, vagus nerve autonomic response to die off toxins (telling your gut to purge), a more direct die off response, a bit of fructose malabsorption, a small histamine reaction, or maybe even a small setback from the original pathogenic infection (SIBO/SIFO). None of these things are likely going to last very long.

Several of these responses are much more sensitive when you don’t get enough sleep, are stressed, fatigued, menstruating, etc. So get a few good nights sleep, get a little exercise, eat very carefully, and just continue. Unless the worsening symptoms lasts for more than 4 days don’t assume a microbial setback.

Here is what normal progress looks like during the first 90 days. The blue bars are the daily progress, the red line is the 7 day average. Note how even large setbacks don’t mean much over a week or more.

Daily and 7 Day average of how you’ll probably feel on The Gut Health Protocol.
