You get to the point where you hardly know what you can eat. The symptoms of a histamine reaction can vary from person to person. In general, they feel very much like an allergic reaction; this is due to the fact that many of the symptoms of most allergic reactions are in large part caused by histamine. Here is a partial list from <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2f5RRec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Gut Health Protocol<\/a>. This topic is discussed in detail in Chapter 20, with a food list in Appendix Q.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Hives \u2013 a type of skin rash possibly with red itchy bumps or welts<\/li>\n<li>Nasal stuffiness<\/li>\n<li>Diarrhea <\/li>\n<li>Constipation (due to the inflammation it causes)<\/li>\n<li>Flushing<\/li>\n<li>Tachycardia &#8211; an abnormally rapid heart rate.<\/li>\n<li>Nausea Joint Pain<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Fatigue and Weakness (along with other symptoms here), Chronic fatigue<\/li>\n<li>Low blood pressure (or higher blood pressure in some people)<\/li>\n<li>Asthma symptoms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For some people the only symptoms is diarrhea (common), or they may any one or two of these symptoms. But the symptoms usually come on after something that triggers a histamine release (or contains histamine).<\/p>\n<p>Here is a partial list of foods high in histamine. Depending on your degree if histamine intolerance the list might contain things like \u2018leftover foods\u2019, even if refrigerated! <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2f5RRec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Gut Health Protocol<\/a> contains a much longer list and helps you spot high histamine foods not on the list.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Aged and fermented foods of any kind. Some of the more common ones are listed below.<\/li>\n<li>Smoked or cured meats \u2013 salami, hams, sausages, fish, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Cheese, especially aged<\/li>\n<li>Kefir, yogurt, buttermilk, cottage cheese<\/li>\n<li>Dried fruits<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol \u2013 it is a fermented product and will contain histamine. Sorry.<\/li>\n<li>MANY probiotics (but not <a href=\"https:\/\/theguthealthprotocol.com\/wp\/phage-complete-ordering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phage Complete<\/a>, it only contains strains that do not produce histamine)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For most people Histamine Intolerance does not need to be permanent.
